Yes, rescue services on the slopes are chargeable. As a guide, standard piste rescue starts at €634, while a rescue involving a helicopter and medical assistance can exceed €5,000. The cost depends on the assistance required.
This depends on your policy. Before your trip, check the cover provided by your payment card, home or travel insurance, or sports membership. Pay particular attention to cover limits, excesses, off-piste cover and whether you must pay costs upfront.
Carré Neige is optional insurance available when purchasing your ski pass. Benefits include rescue cover without upfront payment and off-piste cover. It costs €3.50 per person per day. Check the current price and policy terms when purchasing, and keep your proof of insurance.
Keep your speed under control, adapting it to your ability, the terrain, visibility and other skiers. Leave plenty of room when overtaking so you can react to unexpected changes of direction. Finally, wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet every time you ski: it helps protect you, but never replaces caution.
